Capital Markets Summer Analyst Program: U.S.

The Capital Markets Division summer analyst program is managed as two separate sequential summer programs (term one and term two). Each program runs for eight weeks, and the exact term maps to the summer vacation schedules of our participating schools. As a summer analyst, you are provided with training and then placed in an Equities, Fixed Income or Capital Markets Prime Services business. You are also assigned a recruiter who is responsible for tracking your performance while you are in the program.

Apart from receiving initial training, you will also have the opportunity to attend presentations and networking events throughout the summer which will enable you to learn more about the different groups and meet colleagues across different areas of the Firm.

The division views the summer analyst program as a primary source for hiring full-time analysts. Accordingly, if you are interested in the full-time analyst program, you are strongly encouraged to apply to the summer analyst program.

Rotation And Group Placement Process

Before beginning the summer program, you are asked to complete a placement questionnaire and rank, in order of preference, the areas in Equities, Fixed Income and Capital Markets Prime Services in which you are interested in working in during the summer. Placement decisions are made by the Capital Markets program management and recruiting teams and are based on business demands and your preferences.

Feedback And Review Process

“You will have the opportunity to attend presentations and networking events which will enable you to learn more about the Firm.”

As a summer analyst, you will receive a formal performance review at both the midway point and at the end of the end of the summer program. The purpose of the mid-term review is for you to receive developmental feedback on your performance and to gain a clear understanding of what you need to do to receive a full-time offer. At the end of the summer, you will receive a final review and will learn whether or not you will receive an offer to join the Firm as a full-time analyst.

The best feedback, however, is provided on the job. We encourage you to check in with your managers and colleagues to obtain regular feedback on your performance.

Mobility Opportunities

If you receive and accept a full-time generalist offer for the Capital Markets analyst program, it is important to note that where you spend your summer is not necessarily reflective of where you will be placed as a full-time analyst.

Mentorship Programs

As a summer analyst, you are assigned a junior mentor and a senior mentor to help guide you through your experience at Lehman Brothers, and integrate you into the Firm as quickly as possible. Junior mentors are typically analysts and associates who work on other desks, maximizing your exposure to various businesses. We also make every effort to pair you up with junior mentors who are alumni of your school. Junior mentors are able to provide you with insight into the full-time analyst experience and advice on how to be successful in your job.

Senior mentors are typically senior vice presidents and managing directors who are able to provide you with career guidance and helpful advice about working at Lehman Brothers.
