Capital Markets Summer Associate Program: U.S.
The Capital Markets Division summer associate generalist program is a ten-week program. As a generalist summer associate, you will spend your summer in two five-week rotations in either Equities, Fixed Income or Capital Markets Prime Services. Direct hire summer associates are placed in Equity Research, Public Finance, Real Estate and Quantitative Modeling positions, and spend the entire summer working in their pre-placed desk.
You will have the opportunity to learn about various businesses through an initial training program as well as informal lunches and networking events scheduled throughout the summer. As a summer associate, you are assigned a recruiter who monitors your performance while you are in the summer program.
The Division looks upon the summer associate program as a primary source for hiring full-time associates. Accordingly, if you are interested in the full-time associate program, we strongly encourage you to apply to the summer associate program.
Rotation And Group Placement Process
Before beginning the summer program, you are asked to complete a placement questionnaire and rank, in order of preference, the areas in Equities, Fixed Income and Capital Markets Prime Services in which you are interested in working in during the summer. Placement decisions are made by the Capital Markets recruiting team and are based on business demands and your preferences.
Feedback And Review Process
As a summer associate, you are reviewed at both the midway point and the end of the summer program. The purpose of the mid-summer review is for you to receive developmental feedback on your performance and to gain a clear understanding of what you need to do to receive a full-time offer. The best feedback, however, is provided on the job. We encourage you to check in with your managers and colleagues often to obtain regular feedback on your performance.
At the end of the ten-week summer program, heads of Equities, Fixed Income and Capital Markets Prime Services, as well as the recruiting team, meet to decide whether you will receive an offer to join the Firm as a full-time associate. The decision is based on managers' feedback and your performance reviews, and is communicated to you during the last week of the summer program.

If you receive and accept a full-time generalist offer for the Capital Markets associate program, it is important to note that where you spend your Summer is not necessarily reflective of where you will be placed as a full-time associate. For this reason, we encourage you to cultivate your interests and visit other desks during your summer program.
Mentorship Programs
As a summer associate, you are paired with both a junior mentor and a senior mentor. Junior mentors are typically experienced associates or vice presidents who work on other desks, maximizing your exposure to various businesses. We also make every effort to pair you up with junior mentors who are alumni of your school. Junior mentors are able to provide you with insight into the full-time associate experience, and give you tips on how to be successful on your desk. Senior mentors are typically senior vice presidents and managing directors who are able to provide you with career guidance and helpful advice about working at Lehman Brothers.
