Investment Banking Summer Analyst Program: Europe

The Investment Banking Division (IBD) summer analyst program runs for ten weeks in London starting from the end of June. As a summer analyst, you are given a hands-on opportunity to work as a full member of a client team on a variety of projects and transactions. You are also asked to work on a Mergers and Acquisitions project, enabling you to gain experience on assignments typically performed by full-time analysts in Investment Banking. In addition, you are given the opportunity to present a valuation document to a panel of colleagues.

As a summer analyst, you will go through an initial one-week training program designed to introduce you to the Firm’s unique culture, and reinforce the skills necessary for a successful career in banking. You will also have the opportunity to attend presentations and networking events throughout the summer that will enable you to learn more about the different groups and meet colleagues across different areas of the Firm.

The division views the summer analyst program, along with other analyst internship programs, as primary sources for hiring full-time analysts. Accordingly, if you are interested in the full-time analyst program, you are strongly encouraged to apply to one of these programs.

Group Placement Process

“You are asked to work on an M&A project, enabling you to work on assign- ments typically performed by full-time analysts.”

Summer analysts are assigned to a single industry, product or geography group for the summer. Group assignments are based on a matching process between your preferences and the business needs and language requirements of the groups. Group placement is communicated on the first day of the summer program.

Feedback And Review Process

As a summer analyst, you will receive a formal performance review at both the midway point and at the end of the summer program. The purpose of the mid-term review is for you to receive developmental feedback on your performance and to gain a clear understanding of what you need to do to receive a full-time offer. At the end of the summer, you will receive a final review and will learn whether you are receiving an offer to join the Firm as a full-time analyst.

The best feedback, however, is provided on the job. We encourage you to work with your business managers and colleagues to obtain regular feedback on your performance.

Mentorship Programs

As a summer analyst, you are assigned a buddy and a mentor to help guide you through your experience at Lehman Brothers, and integrate you into the Firm as quickly as possible. Your buddy is someone who can provide you with answers to basic questions and guide you through your day-to-day experience during the summer. Your mentor is a more senior banker who can help you identify developmental areas and take appropriate action to address those areas.
