Investment Banking Summer Associate Program: U.S.
The Investment Banking Division (IBD) summer associate program is a ten-week program that provides you with the opportunity to experience the working environment and career opportunities at Lehman Brothers. Many find the experience to be an invaluable window into what a full-time position is like.
The summer program begins in June with one week of initial training followed by nine weeks working in a single industry, product or geography group. Summer associates in regional offices in the U.S. attend training in New York and then return to their office of hire for the remainder of the summer.
As a summer associate, you will be given a hands-on opportunity to work as a full member of client teams on a variety of projects and transactions. You will gain the same valuable exposure as a first-year associate would experience.
The Division looks upon the summer associate program as a primary source for hiring full-time associates. Accordingly, if you are interested in the full-time associate program, we strongly encourage you to apply to the summer associate program.
Group Placement Process
As a summer associate, you are assigned to a single industry, product or geography group for the summer. Group assignments are based on your preferences, balanced against the business needs of the groups.
Feedback And Review Process
| “We strive to provide you with exceptional professional exposure and the opportunity to work with some of the most talented bankers in our industry.” |
|
As a summer associate, you are reviewed at both the midway point and the end of the summer program. The purpose of the mid-term review is for you to receive developmental feedback on your performance, and to gain a clear understanding of what you need to do to receive a full-time offer. At the end of the summer, you will receive a final review and will learn whether you will receive an offer to join the Firm as a full-time associate.
The best feedback, however, is provided on-the-job. We encourage you to check in with your managers and colleagues to obtain regular feedback on your performance.
Mentorship Programs
As a summer associate, you are assigned a buddy and a mentor to help guide you through your experience at Lehman Brothers, and integrate you into the Firm as quickly as possible. Your buddy is someone who can provide you with answers to basic questions and address your day-to-day experience during the summer. Your mentor is a more senior banker who can help you identify development areas and take appropriate action to address those areas.
