Investment Management Analyst Program: U.S.

The Investment Management Division (IMD) analyst program is a two- to three-year program in which analysts are placed in diverse jobs across three groups in the division: Investments and Research, Client Advisory and Solutions, and Strategy and Business Management.

Rotation And Group Placement Process

Our program is primarily a direct hire program. Throughout the interview process we determine the best fit for you within our division and we extend you an offer for a specific group placement; this allows you to prepare for your position as necessary during your final year of school. In some cases we may hire a few generalist analysts. For generalists, group placements will be determined upon your arrival at the Firm, and after a period of rotations through various Investment Management businesses.

Feedback And Review Process

The purpose of the review process is to provide you with relevant feedback on your perfomance, as well as to advise you on what you need to do to get to the next level.

The IMD analyst review process consists of one objective-setting exercise and two perfomance reviews each year (May and November). Reviews are communicated jointly by your direct manager and your program manager.

Each January, you will work with your direct manager to agree upon objectives for the upcoming year. The purpose of this exercise is to identify performance goals and to create a detailed development plan for the year.

In addition to these formal review processes, you will receive ongoing feedback and career guidance from your analyst program manager.

Advancement Process And Timeline

At the conclusion of your two years as an Investment Management analyst, top performers may be invited to stay at the Firm. At that time you will be promoted to become a third-year analyst.

Mobility Opportunities

Lehman Brothers supports mobility across divisions and regions. There are many opportunities within the Investment Management Division and throughout Lehman Brothers for individuals who are looking to be challenged in a different area of the Firm.

Mentorship Programs

Our focus on mentoring — at all levels of your career — is one of the cultural traits that distinguishes Lehman Brothers. As an analyst, you are assigned a tenured analyst or an associate mentor to help you navigate the Investment Management Division and expand your internal network.

Training

The Investment Management analyst initial training program is an eight-week program held in New York. Beginning with the “One Firm” training, IMD analysts join their associate colleagues for a week and one-half of division-specific training, designed to provide you with a thorough understanding of the division and how its diverse business units work together.

In addition, IMD analysts receive intensive investment analysis initial training. Topics include:

“Analysts receive intensive investment analysis initial training.”

U.S. IMD analysts receive training for the Series 7 and Series 66 securities licensing exams. This training takes place over the course of two weeks and finishes with the analysts sitting for both exams.

Your full participation in the training program is important in establishing both your technical and teamwork skills in the investment management environment. All analysts are expected to successfully complete the training.
