The European IT Industrial Placement Program
The Europe Information Technology (IT) Group runs a twelve-month industrial placement program for students in their penultimate year of graduation who require a twelve-month work placement to meet the requirements of their degree.
You will join one of the departments in the Information Technology Group at our European headquarters in London following an initial two-day orientation program. You will participate as a fully contributing member of the team, working with employees at all levels on diverse assignments including:
- Writing technical specifications.
- Assisting with the implementation of projects.
- Documenting application changes.
- Focusing on new developments and maintaining/updating applications for established systems.
- Partnering with senior developers/senior engineers to become familiar with technical and business characteristics specific to the Firm’s application development life cycle and infrastructure.
You can expect to work in one of the following roles:
- Infrastructure support and engineering —
support of our data centers, networks, storage systems, servers and desktop computing environments.
“You will participate as a fully contributing member of the team, working with employees at all levels on assignments.” - Systems development and support — deployment of new systems, either developed in house or purchased from a third party, and supporting and enhancing existing systems.
You can expect to gain the following from your experience:
- An understanding of the different products (equities, bonds, futures, options, swaps, exotic derivatives, quanto, etc.) traded at Lehman Brothers.
- Knowledge of risk management methods and techniques (variance-covariance, historical simulation, stress testing, maximum potential exposure).
- Involvement in live-trade analysis.
- Use of the various technology packages (VB, SQL, Perl, C++, Java, XML, XSLT, JSP).
The industrial placement program acts as a vital feeder for our full-time information technology analyst program, where successful industrial placements are invited to join the Firm upon completion of their ongoing studies.
Rotation And Department Placement Process
All Industrial Placements (IPs) are directly placed into specific positions across the various technology departments. Pre-placed IPs begin working in their departments directly after completion of their training program.
Depending on performance, IPs are offered roles for the following year’s graduate program.
Feedback And Review Process
The industrial placement program is a one-year program with quarterly reviews taking place during the year. You will start in late June, so you will receive reviews at the end of September, December, March and July.
Advancement Process And Timeline
After the completion of your initial one-year program, you will return to university to complete your studies. You can then apply for the analyst program for the following year.
Mentorship Programs
You are assigned a buddy for the first few weeks of your program, and may be able to participate in a broader mentoring program across IT.
