The Private Investment Management (PIM) Sales Associate Program

This seventeen-month program, currently in the U.S. only, is designed to launch you on a wealth and investment advisory career with Lehman Brothers.

As a Private Investment Management (PIM) sales associate you will receive intensive sales training in which you will learn to sell a complete suite of wealth management services to a broad range of clients. At the end of the program, you can expect to be calling on clients and to have begun building your own “book of business.”

Rotation And Group Placement Process

As a Private Investment Management sales associate, you are pre-placed with a specific investment representative team, according to your region and previous summer associate experience. This enables you to obtain on-the-job guidance, mentoring and assistance from senior investment professionals. We strongly believe that our team-based approach is the most supportive environment for you to build your own book of business.

Feedback And Review Process

The PIM sales associate review process consists of one objective-setting exercise and two performance reviews during your first year.

“Sales associates are placed with one of our teams of investment representatives for on-the-job guidance, mentoring and experience.”

Performance reviews enable you to receive developmental feedback on your performance and to gain a clear understanding of what you need to do in order to get to the next level. Performance reviews take place twice a year (May and November) and are communicated jointly by your branch manager, team members and your associate program manager.

Additionally, each January, you will work with your branch managers and team members to agree upon objectives for the upcoming year. The purpose of the objective-setting exercise is to identify performance goals and to create a detailed development plan for the upcoming year.

Throughout the program, your associate program manager serves as a mentor and advisor to you, and provides you with regular feedback and career guidance.

Advancement Process And Timeline

After you complete your seventeen-month training process, your future advancement is up to the discretion of senior management and your respective business units.

Mobility Opportunities

Lehman Brothers supports mobility across divisions and regions. There are many opportunities within the Division and throughout Lehman Brothers for individuals who are looking to be challenged in a different area of the Firm.

Mentorship Programs

As a PIM sales associate, you are assigned an experienced New York-based senior advisor (an established investment representative) as your mentor. This is particularly helpful for associates in regional offices, as the senior advisor provides a strong connection to the New York headquarters office.

You will also be assigned a senior associate mentor to help you navigate the Division and expand your internal network.

Training

Following “One Firm” training, which provides an overview of Lehman Brothers, Private Investment Management (PIM) sales associates join new IMD analysts for a week and one-half of Division-specific training, designed to provide you with a thorough understanding of IMD and how its diverse business units work together.

In addition, as a PIM sales associate, you will also receive one week of intensive applied investment management training. Topics include:

You will also receive a specialized four-week sales skills training course. This training is designed to prepare you to begin calling on clients as soon as the program ends and addresses four major themes:

PIM sales associates also receive training for the FINRA Series 7 and Series 66 licensing exams. This training takes place over the course of two weeks and finishes with the associates sitting for both exams.
