We look for five core competencies in candidates. While certain divisions or regions may require additional skills, we have found that these five are the core fundamental strengths that lead to long-term success at Lehman Brothers.

Special Technical Requirements
Information Technology
- B.S. or M.S. in computer science or computer/electrical engineering.
- Proficiency in at least one programming language, preferably Java or C++.
- Knowledge of object-oriented design or database development (Application Development program).
- Experience with Windows NT/2000 or Unix environments (Infrastructure Engineering).
- Experience in networks or database management (Infrastructure Engineering).
- Financial experience or knowledge is useful but not essential.
Operations
- High level of English and math proficiency.
- In Europe, a minimum 2:1 classification at undergraduate degree level (mathematical elements of an undergraduate degree are preferable).
Finance
- Accounting skills, economics or business background are preferred but not essential.
- Europe only
- Minimum 2:1 classification at undergraduate degree level.
- Candidates should address their motivation for pursuing the Chartered Institute of Management Accountants (CIMA) qualification.
- Candidates should demonstrate their long-term interest in a career beyond simply obtaining a professional qualification.
Credit Risk Management
- Accounting, finance or economics background are preferred but not essential.
Capital Markets Senior Associates
Ph.D. hires will have undertaken a doctorate in an area of study that is relevant to the performance of the position. Ph.D. hires are usually dedicated to a particular desk, and will therefore need to have the knowledge, skills and abilities detailed in the specific job description provided by the hiring desk.
European And Asian Offices
European and Asian offices may have specific requirements for fluency in certain languages.
