The Lehman Brothers Merchant Banking group manages funds that seek significant long-term capital appreciation through direct investments in established operating companies in partnership with management. The funds invest in companies with sound business fundamentals, proven operating teams and a compelling business strategy or vision. Lehman Brothers Merchant Banking prefers to retain control over critical governance decisions in the companies in which it invests, regardless of ownership percentages, through board representation or ownership rights.

The group was established in 1986 to achieve significant long-term capital appreciation through investments in private equity and equity-linked securities. Today, the team has over 35 dedicated investment professionals with offices in New York, London and Hong Kong. Since 1986, Lehman Brothers Merchant Banking has raised and managed four institutional funds and several employee investment vehicles, with total committed capital in excess of $8.0 billion.

Lehman Brothers Merchant Banking Partners IV is the Merchant Banking group's current fund. The fund closed successfully in June 2007 with over $3.3 billion of capital commitments from institutions, high net worth individual investors, and Lehman Brothers, its affiliates and employees.
